Aye, do you find yourself going through a hard time?

Are hard times a constant presence in your life leaving you feeling

anxious, insecure, vulnerable, not trusting yourself and unable to relax?

Do you find yourself living life with your guard up?

Sounds like you could use some root work! Not speaking of the ancient indigenous practice of healing using earth medicine. Root Chakra balancing is what I am speaking of. You need your roots tended to honey.

What is the Root Chakra?

The root chakra is the first chakra located at the base of the spine your tailbone. Its energy is based on the earth element. It’s associated with the feeling of safety and grounding. It’s at the base of the chakra system and lays the foundation for expansion in your life. Its energy is based on the earth element the source of grounding. The root chakra is literally the foundation of the chakra system. Like the foundation of a building, this chakra anchors the higher chakras - and the human body - to the earth and the world around you.

The Sanskrit name for this chakra is Muladhara, a compound term formed out of the words "root" and "support".

The Muladhara chakra governs a person's relationship with both the basic physical necessities of life, such as food, water, and shelter and the fundamental psychological factors required for mental health, like trust, acceptance, and comfort.

How do I know if it’s out of balance?

If the root (base) chakra becomes unbalanced, you may feel "stuck" and just can't seem to move forward in life. You may feel ungrounded, with a depleting sense of self. Imbalance in the root chakra prevents you from letting go of grief, guilt, and sadness, contributing blocking you from moving forward and preventing you from living your life’s purpose.

Issues related to basic survival needs (shelter, food) and material matters such as money and home; physical issues connected to the body areas and organs associated with the Root Chakra; any issues rooted in fear; misuse of physical energy or unhealthy attachment to the material; feeling ungrounded/disconnected. When your root chakra is OVERACTIVE you experience fear or insecurity related to the physical/material, frustration, impatience, intolerance, anger, aggression, restlessness, impulsiveness, impulsivity, recklessness, hyperactivity, mania/rapid mood swings; egotistical; over-confident, overactive sex drive, sexual aggression, sadistic, manipulative, domineering, controlling, over-protective, territorial, possessive, selfishness, self-indulgent, laziness, materialistic, greediness, preoccupied/obsessed with money or security, materialism or hoarding; resistant to change, stubborn, judgmental, biased, rigid boundaries; addictions to physical and material pleasures (food, money, etc.),eating disorders/ poor eating habits, excessive physical energy, prone to violence.

When your root chakra is UNDERACTIVE you can feel ungrounded, instability, insecure, nervousness and worry, fearful, low self-esteem, lack of confidence, timid, self-doubt, underachieving, passivity, self-deprivation, poor focus and discipline, lack of drive/stamina, feeling uninspired, lack of enthusiasm, lethargy, apathy, general disinterest in life or daily activities, feeling unwelcome or misunderstood, feeling of not 'fitting in', feelings of unworthiness, shame, feeling powerless, feeling disconnected or detached from the world or your body, dread, depression, suicidal, overly cautious, untrusting and suspicious, low libido or repressed sexuality, chronic disorganization, resistant/afraid of change, poor personal boundaries, co-dependency, recipient of abuse or abusive towards others, financial difficulties/struggle with money, poverty.

Get me to my roots; how can I balance this madness?!

Breathe for a moment, it is ok to be ungrounded. We all have our moments, I spent summer insecure and out of touch. I give gratitude to my awareness and celebrate my return. Don’t spend life focused on the fumble. Gift yourself ease, gentleness and tenderness. You could use it on this journey.
